What a fantastic night that was!
Under a stunning summer sky, hundreds and hundreds of people came to Alton's premiere public event; our own last night of the proms!
The orchestra played their hearts out in the heat of the evening as the mass of visitors tucked into picnics and champagne and were bouyed into life by the stunning voice of soprano, Jane Mabbit.
The world premiere of Chris Gardner's Hampshire Suite was very well recevied and what a treat it was to listen to something so new, and from the soul of a local composer.
As the sun sank slowly behind the houses, Pomp and Circumstance began the second half of the evening and if there was a roof over the Public Gardens, it would surely have been raised by massed voices of the audience, such was the volume of the singing.
Both the Alton Community Choir and Alton Choral Society were in fine voice on the night and impressed the crowd once again with their varied and talented voices.
